thanks Karine, good blog. it's sort of an unfortunate topic but we have to keep talking about it if we want things to change and keep improving. yes, hockey is for everyone, and sadly this means there will sometimes be some really dumb/ignorant/racist folks that get involved in the sport. the good news is these people seem to be a minority, even if they do tend to be a loud bunch with their poop-for-brains attitude.

and concerning this:

For some, the fact that he had an English name meant that he isn’t a Quebecer, and that is just downright wrong. The fact that he moved away from the province and spent most of his adult life in Boston doesn’t make him any less of a Quebecer and thinking otherwise is just another form of racism. Personally, I spent over 8 years in London and the experience didn’t make me any less of a Quebecer.


have you heard anyone in the media that have a problem with Hughes and his so called lack of "frenchness/Quebecer identity"..? maybe it's because I'm not on Twitter but I haven't heard a single person complain about this so far, heck even Réjean Tremblay seemed ok with the hiring lol.

ouf, pas fort lol...et je te gage que c'est même pas une journaliste de sports..? en tout cas je suis agréablement surpris pour ma part qu'il y a eu très peu de commentaires ignorants du genre à propos de Hughes. si on l'avait embauché il y a 20 ou 30 ans passé peut-être qu'il y aurait eu un peu plus de grogne venant de la part des vieux nationalistes chauvains, mais aujourd'hui ça semble pas être le cas du tout, un signe que les mentalités ont évolué avec le temps.

98.5 broadcast the Habs games, that's the only time I listen, if I happen to be in my car during a game. which is very rare.

somethimes I read about someone in the paper or I see them on tv, and I have absolutely no idea who they are. it's like I live in a parallel universe, completely missing half of what goes on.
